Message from the Department Director

Roger TornedenWe are especially proud to celebrate our 35th Annual Tax Controversy Conference given our first year of new Federal “taxing” experiences, increasing deficits (Pension funds as well as Federal, State, and Local governments), and, an overlay of global financial issues. The overriding good news is that Los Angeles, as well as the U.S., is most well represented with the best possible IRS leadership in Washington. We know that Commissioner Rettig’s qualifications, dedication, energy, and attitude will guide us successfully through increasingly complex financial and regulatory environments.

Many thanks to Steve Toscher and our conference sponsors for enabling UCLA Extension to work with the highest quality tax practitioners on the West Coast as well as senior IRS professionals both on the West Coast and in Washington, D.C.

We at UCLA Extension are heavily invested in tax and legal career preparation through continuing professional development programs including these:

  • Paralegal Training Program (endorsed by the American Bar
Association®) Please keep in mind we provide new Paralegals for
law firms of all sizes and specializations.
  • Accounting (CPA track as well as short programs in fundamentals
    and practice specializations)
  • Personal Financial Planning (leading to the Certified Financial
Planner® Certification) including tax planning, estate planning,
    retirement planning, and risk management
  • Taxation (including an Enrolled Agent Program)
  • Internal Audit

UCLA Extension’s Business, Management and Legal Programs Department offers more than 50 certificate programs and more than 10 specializations via 1,000+ professional courses annually.

Importantly, our courses are taught by leading practitioners vetted by the UCLA Law School and UCLA’s Anderson School of Management. We also provide professional development and
continuing education specifically designed for each client at the client’s offices. These programs are tailored to the specific employer needs (in content and instruction time).

In total UCLA Extension serves approximately 40,000 learners each year (in-class and on-line). UCLA and UCLA Extension alumni in Los Angeles County number more than 100,000 reflecting our 100+ years serving our City and County.

Thank you for your individual and organization’s support…it makes today possible! We are counting on you for 2020, 2021, and beyond so please let us know how we can better serve you and
your organization!
